There’s a fundamental difference in the two incidents. Steve Austin hit Debra and no one will champion him for that, but then he plead no contest in court while apologetic, served his due to society, and went on to live in humble retirement. Chris Brown tried to throw Rihanna out of a moving car, threatened to kill her, beat her til she was bloody and broken, and then turned himself in after learning he was under investigation. He plead guilty but would go on to give shaky interviews where he claimed not to remember the night, go on a violent tirade on GMA where he threw an object at a window, and whine about it on twitter, whist even today making such defensive comments as in the OP to anyone who brings up the incident.

No one’s arguing that Austin didn’t practice domestic violence, but there is a difference in the way he carries himself after the fact than from Chris Brown, who continues to act like a buffoon and live up the “bitches and hos” lifestyle of a famous singer, even without all the outbursts.
